When Paul and Dawn decided to sell their home on Valleyview Drive in St. James-Assiniboia using ComFree, they felt confident they would be able to do the job and save thousands in commissions.
They had already bought a new home in St. Vital (also listed through ComFree) and were anxious to sell the Valleyview Drive home quickly and with a minimum of fuss.
What they didn’t expect was to have a firm offer at the asking price of $149,900 within six hours of launching their first Open House.
"We listed it on the ComFree website on a Friday with a two-hour Open House for the following Sunday and couldn’t believe how many people showed up, "says Paul. "We had 55 couples in the house at one point."
Dawn says they could likely have gotten more but they already had a mortgage on their new St. Vital residence, so they were very happy to conclude the sale that day.
She says ComFree offered invaluable help in setting up the Open House.
They even used ComFree to help the buyer find a lawyer willing to prepare papers on a Sunday evening. |
Both Paul and Dawn feel that handling their own sale actually gave them more control because they could set their own timetable. "An agent can call in the middle of dinner if they have someone wanting to see the house and you pretty well have to go along with the interruptions," says Paul. "This way, a seller can control any appointment times.
"We saved some $9,000 in commissions as well as the GST you have to pay on top of the commission," says Paul. "This experience worked out well for all parties. ComFree was very professional and answered any questions we had at any time. They always returned any calls within five minutes and patiently answered any questions we had." |
